Spring Break 2016 was one of the busiest Spring Breaks we could have ever planned. Bishops Gate Golf Academy students, staff, and coaches travelled all over the world for a busy weekend full of clinics, tournaments, and play. Three students claimed their Race to Scotland prize and embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Home of Golf. They had seven days of traveling all over Scotland and, of course, playing some of the most famous courses in the world. BGGA was represented in Medellin, Colombia, by several staff members who hosted a week-long training clinic for the AJGC, and BGGA hosted the AJGA’s Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior at Horseshoe Bay in Texas. #TeamBGGA was playing in tournaments all across the United States as well.
At the AJGA’s TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior at Innisbrook hosted by Justin Rose, BGGA senior Gaby Coello and junior Maria Hoyos fought through rain delays and tough scoring conditions to survive the 36-hole cut. Maria, a University of Arkansas verbal commit, claimed a T8 finish after carding a tournament total 75-72-78-225. Just one shot behind Maria, Gaby claimed a T1o finish after carding 74-78-74-226 on the weekend. Maria carded 33 pars and Gaby carded 36 pars through the difficult conditions over the weekend. Both Gaby and Maria played the Copperhead course’s famous 3-hole stretch, the Snake Pit, bogey-free at least once in the three rounds.
At the AJGA Preview at Innisbrook, BGGA freshman Ana Sofia Meneses claimed a T10 finish in her first AJGA event. Ana played Innisbrook’s North Course at just 24-over-par in pouring rain and windy conditions.
Playing PGA National Resort’s Fazio course, the AJGA also hosted several BGGA students for the Core Golf Academy Junior All-Star. In the Boys Division, Robin Williams recovered from an opening round 78 to shoot 73 and 71 in rounds 2 and 3, respectively. His 6-over-par total was enough to secure a T16 finish. Also claiming a T16 finish at the event was BGGA freshman Anna (Siyan) Chen. Anna carded a 78-77-79-234 to claim her top-20 finish in her first ever AJGA event.
At the BGGA Junior at Horseshoe Bay, BGGA junior Taisuke Ono fought piercing cold and winds in Austin’s hill country to claim another top-20 finish. His 76-75-77-228 secured a T19 finish. Taisuke carded 34 pars and 5 birdies during the 54-hole event, helping him shoot some of the most consistent scores in the field.
