Over the weekend of January 16-18, 2016, several students from Bishops Gate Golf Academy started their 2016 competitive seasons. Even though it was just their first weekend back from the holiday break, Tennoshin Ogawa,Tsukasa Kimishima, and Taisuke Ono all traveled to the American Junior Golf Tour’s EaglesDream Junior Open at Timacuan Golf Club. Tennoshin carded an opening round 73, setting himself up well for the second round. Playing through very high winds and cold temperatures, Tennoshin shot a second-round 80, good enough to secure a tie for 12th place. Just two shots behind Tennoshin, in a tie for 18th place, were Tsukasa Kimishim and Taisuke Ono.
Just down the road from Timacuan, Jeffrey Wu was competing in the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s 54-Hole Challenge at Rio Pinar Country Club. The Bishops Gate Golf Academy ninth grader started his 2016 tournament season strong with a solo second-place finish. He finished at 11-over-par, just three shots behind the tournament leader. The entire field was also plagued with tough weather conditions, making scoring a very challenging prospect.
Far away from the unusual weather in central Florida, BGGA had representatives in the AJGA’s Puerto Rico Junior Open. After a difficult first-round 80, Julian Perico came back with a vengeance to card a second-round 67. Perico closed the three-day event with a 75, securing a tie for 33rd. BGGA senior Marcos Montenegro fired a 76-69-72-217 on the weekend. Marcos claimed a tie for 16th in one of the premier events of the AJGA’s schedule.
