On April 2, 2015, Bishops Gate Golf Academy sophomore Maria Hoyos made the phone call every student-athlete dreams of making. Maria dialed the number of Emily Glaser and made a verbal commitment to play for the University of Florida’s Women’s Golf team. Hoyos will be joining the team after graduating in 2017. When asked what it felt like to have reached such a great milestone in her junior golf career, Maria simply said, “I just feel like a Gator. It feels like a great fit; I love the program, I love the coaching team, and it just feels right.”
Maria now joins a group of five other BGGA students who are committed to play college golf. Her fellow Class of 2017 verbal commit is Gabby Coello, who is committed to the University of Georgia. Rounding out Team BGGA’s SEC contingent in BGGA senior Mai Dechathipat. Mai signed her National Letter of Intent to Auburn University during the early signing period in November of 2014. The other seniors leaving BGGA for the next level include Tiger Lee, Mami Yamamoto, and Karen Arimoto. Tiger is going to play golf for the University of New Mexico. Mami is going to play for Texas Technical University, and Karen is going to play for the University of Oklahoma.
