On Saturday, November 29, 2014, Bishops Gate Golf Academy student Maria Hoyos helped Team Colombia defend its title as champions of the “Copa Los Andes”. The tournament is a South American international amateur event held each year. The Colombian National Team is proud to claim the title for the second year in a row. Maria is now ranked as the No. 1 junior golfer in Colombia, and, with this win, has joined an elite group of junior golfers. Hoyos is one of only two junior golfers to win all three of the premier amateur events in South America, and she did it all in the same year. “I have seen Maria’s progress in the last year and a half and her determination is amazing,” said coach Manuel Bermudez. “She has won everything she can in South America, and it is not surprising when you see her commitment and drive on a daily basis.” When asked what this rare honor means to her, Maria Hoyos said “I am very happy to say that I won the three tournaments in the same year. I have been working really hard, and I’m really happy to see my dedication pay off.”
