This morning in Rio, Miriam Nagl of Brazil made history as the first woman to hit a golf shot in the Olympic Games since 1900.  Miriam has been working with BGGA coach, Jonathan Yarwood in order to prepare.

Jonathan Yarwood previously worked with Miriam for 5 years when she was a junior, but came to him a few months ago with a new goal- representing Brazil in the 2016 Olympics. While most view Nagl as German, the golfer was actually born in Brazil and showed a real passion for representing her country in these Games.

Yarwood had the following to say on Nagl’s preparation for Rio:

“It seemed a lofty goal at the time, but with single minded determination she travelled the world playing in events which would gain her the points required to qualify.

She came to me at BGGA as part of her journey in becoming technically better with her swing but also sorting her poor putting and bunker shots. We accomplished these goals and she won a tournament the following week from her BGGA visit.

She has made incredible sacrifices, as she had to take her young daughter on the road with her. Its incredible to watch someone fulfil an amazing dream and to be small part of that journey is very fulfilling also.”

Good Luck to Miriam as her week in Rio continues!
