Andrew Summers

Andrew Summers

CEO

Andrew Summers was born in Nigeria and grew up in South Africa, countries that his father served in as an educational missionary. He returned to his homeland of Scotland to complete his high school education then went on to earn his undergraduate degree and chartered accountant qualification at St Andrew’s University, Edinburgh University and Heriot Watt University.

He then spent twenty years in the investment management industry with Morgan Grenfell, Morgan Stanley and Silchester International Investors, a company that he co-founded in 1994. Andrew retired from a successful finance career in 2006 to focus his time on his true passion - sport and education.

Since his early days as a teacher of math and physics at Strathallan School and as a tennis coach, Andrew has been interested in coaching and developing young people. Having been involved as a partner in golf academies since his retirement, Andrew has a vision to raise the standards in the industry and improve product quality.

His philanthropic endeavors are extensive and include supporting schools in South Africa, the USA and Mexico, participating in leadership development in the Middle East and supporting junior sports organizations.

Kevin Smeltz

Kevin Smeltz

Director of Golf

Kevin Smeltz’ passion is the development of junior golfers and as such he was thrilled to bring his wealth of experience to BGGA. Since joining, he has set about building the team of highly skilled professionals he is proud to introduce to you today.

Working with some of the best in the game including Nick Price, Charles Howell III, and Na Yeon Choi, Kevin knows what it takes to produce a winner. Although he still works with several professional tour players, Kevin’s heart is in junior golf. While under his instruction, Kevin’s players have won 20 tournaments on the PGA Tour, Champions Tour, and LPGA Tour. Kevin has taught two U.S. Walker Cup team members, two No. 1-ranked college players, a No. 2-ranked college player, and many top-ranked juniors. Kevin has been awarded many accolades including voted one of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers (2012-Present) and regularly contributes to golf magazines around the world.

Additional managing partners include LeeAnne Misseldine (Marketing & Recruitment) and Ben Pauluhn (Operations).

Managing Partner, Marketing & Recruitment

Lee-Anne Misseldine was born in Wellington, NZ, but considers Durban, South Africa, her hometown. Raised on the Indian Ocean she spent her teenage years nurturing her love of the water as a lifeguard and water sport enthusiast.

Lee-Anne earned her degree in South Africa and in the United States, pursuing her interest in theology and biblical studies. Early in her life she had a desire to be full time in ministry to follow her passion for giving back and helping others. Although her path changed, she firmly believes that we all have a mission, regardless of our profession or career choice, and by following your purpose you find fulfillment in your life.

Returning to South Africa, Lee-Anne started her professional life in the non-profit sector working for World Vision, the international development and advocacy organization. Her tenure working with the impoverished children and families of South Africa formed her empathy for people. Lee-Anne accepted a position in marketing and promotions for the South African Department of Children and Families. In that capacity she worked on numerous national campaigns and marketing events to drive awareness and support for the cause.

After relocation to the United States, Lee-Anne found a passion for business in the publishing world. Quickly rising through the ranks at Knight Ridder Inc. from Sales and Marketing Manger to an executive director position, Lee-Anne took on the challenge of newspaper growth in a highly competitive environment and a declining industry. She rose to the task, contributing to unprecedented growth during her tenure.

In 2009 a long time dream became a reality when Lee-Anne and her partners started the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy. Starting with just a dream to create a unique environment for athletic development, this winning team created an academy that quickly grew faster than any junior golf program in the industry to date.

Her success is driven by a love and care for people and her desire to create teams that are powerful of purpose and like-minded of vision. Lee-Anne has served on numerous boards including Junior Achievement, United Way and the American Cancer Society.

Andres Vera

Andres Vera

Recruitment Manager

Andres Vera was born In Caracas, Venezuela March 3, 1981. In 1994 he immigrated to the United States with his family to Miami, Florida. There, he was introduced to golf and fell in love with the game.

Background:
Andres worked as the assistant golf professional at Gainesville Country Club under the tutelage of Cary Splane. He also worked as the Assistant Golf Coach for Bucholz High School and trained junior golfers like Bobby Gates (PGA Tour Player) and Tyson Alexander (UF team member and Hooters Tour player). After that, he went on to become the assistant golf professional at River Hills Country Club in Tampa, Florida, and then became the head golf professional at the same club.

Andres has also played in many mini tour tournaments throughout his career as a golf professional in tours such as the Hooters Tour, Florida Professional Golfer’s Tour and the Moonlight Tour. Andres’s background and customer service experience makes him an integral asset to our sales team at Bishops Gate Golf Academy.

Education:
Andres graduated from the San Diego Golf Academy in 2000 with a degree in business with an emphasis in golf management. He then went on to graduate from the University of Florida with a degree in business administration.

Stacy Shanks

Stacy Shanks

Marketing Manager

Stacy joined BGGA as the Marketing Manager in December 2016. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and her Master’s Degree in Social Media/Mass Communications from the University of Florida and has more than 12 years of experience working in digital and social media. Stacy previously held positions with the Ladies Professional Golf Association and Golfweek Magazine. When not at work, Stacy enjoys spending time with her daughter.

Johanna Vera

Director of Admissions

When Johanna joined the BGGA family she brought over 13 years of experience in accounting. She holds her degree in Business Management. Johanna currently holds the title of Director of Admissions but was previously the Senior Accountant.

Johanna has worked with the academy industry for the last five years and has built great relationships with parents and students. She hopes to be able to implement an easy transition for families that are joining the academy for the first time as well as helping our current families and students with all their needs and concerns. When not at work, Johanna enjoys spending time with her husband, 9-year-old daughter, 11-year-old son and two dogs.

Kit Hudgins

Academy Tutor

Kit joined BGGA full-time in March 2016. As a former Adjunct Professor of English and General Education, she has enjoyed more than 20 years of teaching in a variety of high school, college and private academy settings. Kit not only provides academic support in most subject areas, but also specializes in conducting conversational English classes and developing test-taking strategies for ACT, SAT, TOEFL and other standardized tests. She holds a Master’s in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC. Her hobbies include gardening, reading and volunteering with local animal rescue groups.

Lynda Hughes

Lynda Hughes

Director of Student Care and Housing

Lynda Hughes was born in what was once Rhodesia and now known as Zimbabwe. Her family emigrated to New Zealand when she was a young child and then later to Australia for a few years as a young teen and then on to South Africa where she spent the majority of her life. Lynda spent many years in both the hospitality industry and property management operations before coming to the U.S.

Lynda has been involved in academy life in a variety of roles and as a self-proclaimed people person loves the daily interaction with staff, guests and students alike. Lynda is married with three children and two adorable grandsons.

Reuben Santos

Systems Administrator

Reuben graduated from Seminole State College with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems technology (BSIST). He has been working in IT related positions since 2010 learning and picking up new skills along the way. At Bishops Gate, Reuben is primarily responsible for maintaining and overseeing most IT related functions including but not limited to the internal computer and network infrastructure. When not at work, Reuben normally has a camera in his hands taking photos and videos.

After earning his degree in Food Science from Johnson and Wales University, Bill has now 35 years of experience in the Food Service Industry after working in New England, California and Florida. Bill and his wife Sharon are foster parents to stray kitten & dogs.

Lenka Martin

Lenka Martin

Director of Housekeeping

Lenka was born in the Czech Republic and earn her business degree at the Business Academy Economic Lyceum. After the fall of the communist party in her country, Lenka was intrigued to learn about other cultures and languages, which fast became her hobby and her passion. After coming to the U.S., Lenka has gained a strong background and experience in the Hospitality and Janitorial Management Field. She now resides in Howey in the Hills with her fiancée, 15-year-old son and 3 dogs. Lenka is a people person and loves to see everyone smiling.

Peter De Maio

Peter started his studies at Chicago Police Academy. He then joined the University of Illinois Police Training Institute and the FBI National Academy, to later graduate with a Degree in Applied Science & Law Enforcement that made him be part of the Expert Classification in firearms. After working in Chicago Police Dept as a Patrol and Tactical Officer for 5 years, he became the Chicago Suburb Chief of Police for 10 years. Now working at Bishops Gate, Peter enjoys the opportunities Florida gives him to play golf and tennis. As part of his hobbies Peter enjoys building cars, boats and motorcycles.

Nicola de Stwolinska

Nicola de Stwolinska’s career in golf began after working in banking for many years before realizing her true passion was golf. She went back to school and obtained her Associate’s Degree in Golf Complex Operations and Management before embarking on a career in golf that has now spanned more than 10 years. She joined the BGGA team in July 2016 with both administrative and management experience in the golf industry. Nicola’s career has included managing the daily operations and scheduling in a traditional golf school environment, tournament coordination and pro shop management at two busy course facilities as well as experience with administration at another academy. Nicola is passionate about helping golfers, especially juniors and women, learn and play the game.
